₹23.5-Crore Development Works Underway at GDC Women’s College: MLA Sopore

Sopore, Oct 07: Sopore MLA Irshad Rasool Kar on Wednesday said no student in his constituency should be deprived of the best infrastructure and educational facilities, asserting that the Government Degree College for Women here has the potential to emerge as North Kashmir’s finest institution.

         Speaking at the closing ceremony of a first-of-its-kind women’s sports festival at the college, MLA Kar as per Kashmir Convener said providing quality education with better facilities in his constituency will remain his top priority.

“Every institution, be it this college or any high school or higher secondary in my constituency, my students should not lag behind in best infrastructure and best education,” the MLA said.

He said his special efforts have been on since day one to make the institution even better.

On the college specifically, Kar said that with government support, it could become the best college in North Kashmir.

According to college authorities, the MLA has been keenly focusing on the college’s development, with works worth around Rs 23.5 crore currently underway.

These include a Science Block (Rs 5 crore), a Skill Block (Rs 2.5 crore), a Library Block (Rs 5 crore), a Guest House (Rs 2.75 crore), beautification of the AD Block (Rs 1.80 crore), a garage, drainage system and stone gate (Rs 1.45 crore), and an IT project (Rs 1 crore).

The college administration praised MLA Kar’s efforts in building a strong base for the institution, besides his special attention towards its development.

They said the college has been touching new heights over the past two years for the better and safe future of students.

Notably, the first North Kashmir Women Sports Festival concluded at Government Degree College for Women, Sopore, on Wednesday, with more than 900 athletes from 14 degree colleges and five higher secondary schools taking part in the three-day event held from October 5.
