Pampore, April 30: A two-day assessment camp for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwDs) concluded on Wednesday at the Palash Child Care Institute, Patalbagh, in the Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The camp was part of an ongoing initiative by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department of Pulwama.
The camp aimed to assess the needs of the elderly and PwDs for assistive devices. A team of medical professionals from ALIMCO, alongside officials from the Social Welfare Department, conducted evaluations for nearly 100 beneficiaries. The camp received a warm response, with a total of 114 individuals enrolled to receive free assistive devices.
Muzamil Shafi, an official from ALIMCO, told Kashmir Convener that the two-day camp helped assess the specific needs of the participants. “We identified the required aids and appliances for each beneficiary, which will be provided to them in an upcoming distribution camp,” he said. The camp saw the assessment of 61 beneficiaries on the first day and 54 on the second day.
The primary aim of the initiative is to improve the quality of life and mobility of senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. The participants will receive essential items like wheelchairs, tricycles, crutches, hearing aids, knee braces, walking sticks, cervical collars, back belts, and calipers.
The camp was held under the theme “Samajik Adhikarita Shivir – Assessment Camp for Free Distribution of Aids and Appliances to Divyangjan under the ADIP Scheme, Government of India.” The event was organized by ALIMCO with support from the Social Welfare Department, Pulwama, and attracted beneficiaries from all tehsils of the district.
