Airtel’s Anti-SPAM Tool Gets Smarter Against Global Scams

Srinagar, April 21: Bharti Airtel has announced two major enhancements to its AI-driven anti-SPAM tool, bolstering efforts to combat rising spam and scam attempts, especially those originating from foreign networks.

The updated tool will now issue SPAM alerts for calls and SMS messages in 10 Indian languages—Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Punjabi, and Urdu—catering to the linguistic diversity of India. Additionally, the system has been upgraded to detect and alert customers to SPAM calls and messages from international numbers, in a bid to address the alarming 12% spike in overseas spam traffic observed over the past six months.

Airtel’s anti-SPAM system, launched in September 2024, has flagged over 27.5 billion spam calls to date, averaging 1,560 spam calls per second, and has contributed to a 16% reduction in overall spam calls.

“Customers and their feedback are at the heart of everything we do,” said Siddharth Sharma, Director Marketing and CEO – Connected Homes, Bharti Airtel. “As fraudsters increasingly exploit foreign networks, we’ve expanded our AI capabilities to safeguard our users, while ensuring they receive alerts in their preferred languages.”

These updates are automatically activated and free of cost for all Airtel users. However, vernacular SPAM alerts are currently available only on Android devices.

With these additions, Airtel continues to lead the telecom sector with innovative, customer-centric security solutions, reinforcing its commitment to protecting users against evolving digital threats.
