Srinagar, April 20:In light of continuous heavy rainfall and deteriorating weather conditions across the Union Territory, Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum (JKReTTF), Khalid Rafeeq Bhat, has appealed to the Minister of Education to declare a one-day special holiday for all schools in Jammu and Kashmir.

The appeal comes as several areas, particularly low-lying regions, face waterlogging and partial flooding, making it difficult for students and teachers to access school premises. Many school buildings have become surrounded by water, raising serious safety concerns.

“The safety and well-being of our students and teaching staff must remain our top priority,” said Bhat in a statement issued on Sunday. He urged the government to act promptly and empathetically by allowing a one-day closure to help authorities assess infrastructure conditions and ensure safety.

The Forum reiterated its commitment to safe and quality education and expressed hope that the Education Department will consider the appeal in the larger interest of the school community.
