Ramban Tragedy: Nizamuddin Bhat Urges Swift Relief and Compensation
Ramban, April 20: Senior Congress leader and MLA Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat, on Sunday expressed concern over the destruction caused by massive landslides and flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, which have claimed lives and caused extensive infrastructural damage.
Expressing sorrow over the tragedy, Bhat said, “A huge loss has occurred in Ramban. There are reports of three deaths.” Distressing visuals from the disaster site show vehicles buried under mounds of debris, while several shops and a local restaurant have suffered severe damage.
Bhat also stated that some of the affected vehicles belong to residents from his constituency, Bandipora. “Some vehicles from my constituency are trapped under the debris,” he added.
Calling it a grave natural disaster, Bhat urged authorities to launch a coordinated relief operation. “This is not just a regional concern—besides the UT government, the central government must step in to assist and compensate the affected families,” he emphasized.
While rescue operations are underway, official figures on the number of people still trapped remain unconfirmed.
Bhat concluded by stressing the importance of timely intervention and comprehensive support from both the Union Territory and Central governments to alleviate the hardships of the victims and expedite the restoration of essential services and infrastructure.
