Srinagar, April 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association on Monday extended its heartfelt gratitude to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar for his swift and timely intervention that led to the rescue and repatriation of nearly two dozen Kashmiri youth, including Faizan Ahmad of Safakadal, Srinagar, who had been trafficked and held hostage under distressing conditions in Myanmar.
In a statement issued by National Convenor Nasir Khuehami, the Association revealed that the trafficked individuals, primarily from economically weaker backgrounds, had fallen prey to fraudulent agents who lured them with fake promises of lucrative jobs in Thailand.
The Association had officially written to Dr. S. Jaishankar on March 10, urging urgent diplomatic intervention.
“We are thankful that the Ministry of External Affairs responded the very next day, confirming that the Indian Mission in Myanmar had already taken up the matter with local authorities,” Khuehami said. He quoted the MEA’s communication dated March 11, which stated: “Requests for the rescue and repatriation of all Indian nationals, including Kashmiri youth Faizan Rasool, entrapped in Myawaddy, have been taken up with the concerned authorities in Myanmar. We are actively working on it.”
Khuehami stated that the timely intervention of Dr. Jaishankar and the relentless efforts of the Indian embassies had brought immense relief to families living in anguish. “His leadership has once again proven that India stands by its citizens, even in the darkest corners of the world,” he said, emphasizing that the mission not only saved lives but also sent a stern warning to international trafficking networks that India will not tolerate the exploitation of its citizens.
