62 medals for J&K: Stellar performance at 30th National Thang-Ta Championship

Haridwar, Uttarakhand, January 6, 2025: The Jammu and Kashmir Thang-Ta team has brought laurels to the Union Territory by clinching second place at the 30th Sub-Junior and Senior National Thang-Ta Championship 2024-25. The championship, held from January 4 to 6 in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, saw participation from 26 states, showcasing top talent in this traditional martial art.

The J&K team delivered a stellar performance, securing a total of 62 medals—20 gold, 20 silver, and 22 bronze. Their commendable effort earned them the overall second position, with Manipur taking the top spot and Assam finishing third.

Adding to the team’s success, Mr. Ayjaz Ahmad Bhat received the prestigious “Best Coach of the Year” award from the President of the World Thang-Ta Federation. This recognition highlights Mr. Bhat’s dedication and significant contribution to the growth of Thang-Ta in the region.

Expressing pride in the team’s achievement, the Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Thang-Ta Association stated, “This victory is a moment of immense pride for all of us. Our players worked tirelessly, and the residential coaching camp organized by the J&K Sports Council played a vital role in refining their skills and boosting their stamina. We are particularly grateful to Madam Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, for her unwavering support and efforts to promote sports in the region.”
