Hajin: The Department of Environmental Science, in collaboration with the Debates and Seminars Committee of GDC Hajin Thursday organized a seminar on a thought-provoking title “The Green Debate: Environment Through the Lens of Language, Literature and Politics”.
This programme was held under the patronage of esteemed Principal Prof. (Dr.) Gazala Firdous. The seminar offered a unique interdisciplinary exploration of environmental consciousness.
The seminar was expertly moderated by Prof. Adnan Rashid, Head, Department of Environmental Science who commenced the proceedings with an insightful introductory speech, setting the stage for the seminar’s unique theme.
He emphasized the critical need to understand environmental issues not just through science, but also through the perspectives offered by humanities, social sciences and languages.
The formal welcome and keynote address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Mehraj Hajini, Head, Department of Political Science. Prof. (Dr.) Mehraj Hajini explicitly explored the intricate relationship between environment governance, polity and political structures.
He examined how power dynamics, international relations and state policies significantly shape environmental outcomes and the discourse surrounding sustainability. He deliberated upon and shared his valuable views about the politics and environment.
The second session featured Dr. Firdous Ahmad Paray, Head, Department of Kashmiri. Dr. Firdous Ahmad Paray eloquently delved into the rich tapestry of Kashmiri literature, highlighting how traditional poetry, folklore and prose have historically reflected a deep connection with nature and embedded environmental ethics.
He demonstrated how Kashmiri literary heritage serves as a powerful reservoir for fostering local environmental awareness and stewardship.
Dr. Fayrooz Ahmad Mir, Head, Department of Urdu, presented a comprehensive analysis of environmental themes within Urdu literature.
Dr. Fayrooz explored how renowned Urdu poets and prose writers have engaged with nature, ecological concerns and the human relationship with the environment across different eras.
Prof. Nahida expressed gratitude to the principal for her patronage, commended the organizing departments, thanked the distinguished speakers for their enlightening presentations, acknowledged the moderator for guiding the discussions and appreciated the diligent work of the Protocol Committee and all supporting staff.
