Doda, May 10: In a proactive step to address the rising number of traffic accidents in Doda district, the Indian Army on Saturday organised a lecture on traffic awareness for local youth and drivers at Bhart. The initiative aimed to educate the public, especially two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers, about safe driving practices and traffic discipline.
The session witnessed participation from nearly 80 locals from Bhart, Barnu, Gujjar Basti, and Bhalra. Army personnel sensitised attendees to the critical importance of obeying road rules, avoiding over-speeding, and the dangers of drunk and drug-influenced driving. Emphasis was also placed on preventive vehicle maintenance and ensuring roadworthiness to prevent mechanical failures that often lead to fatal accidents.
Soldiers conducted on-the-spot awareness drives along the roads, handing out motivational pamphlets and engaging directly with motorists to reinforce safe driving behaviour. Special focus was placed on educating young riders, who are often vulnerable due to limited traffic knowledge.
The event drew appreciation from the Drivers Association Doda and local administrative representatives, who lauded the Army’s sustained efforts in promoting community welfare beyond the call of duty. Organisers hope the lecture will contribute to long-term behavioural change and help reduce road mishaps in the region.
