Awareness Program on Child Rights and Abuse Held at Govt BMS Dawar

Gurez, April 11: The Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC), Gurez, under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), organized an impactful awareness program today at Government Boys Middle School, Dawar, focusing on Child Rights and the Prevention of Child Abuse.

An official spokesperson said the event aimed at sensitizing students, parents, and the wider community about the fundamental rights of children and the growing concern of child abuse in its various forms.

The program was graced by the Worthy Chairman of TLSC Gurez, Mehak Mehboob, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he emphasized the need to ensure a safe, nurturing environment for children, underscoring the role of families, schools, and society in upholding children’s rights.

Highlighting key legal frameworks such as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, and constitutional provisions, the Chairman elaborated on the legal mechanisms in place to safeguard children’s dignity, education, and protection. He urged all stakeholders—parents, educators, legal professionals, and community members—to remain vigilant and promptly report any signs of abuse or exploitation.

Addressing the gathering, Mehak Mehboob shared a moving message:

“Every child is a flower in the garden of society; it’s our duty to nurture them with love, protect them with law, and empower them with knowledge.”

The event featured Advocate Javaid Iqbal and other legal experts, along with the Headmaster of Govt Boys Middle School Dawar and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of TLSC Gurez, who conducted interactive sessions. These sessions focused on identifying signs of abuse and provided information on available legal and psychological support services.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective pledge to work towards the protection and empowerment of every child. The Chairman reiterated the importance of community vigilance in safeguarding children’s rights and creating a secure future for the next generation.
