Srinagar:- Scattered Souls—a collection of interlinked short stories by a young Kashmiri author Shahnaz Bashir has been shortlisted for the Best Book-Fiction Award at the Tata Lit Live Awards 2017. In various reviews, his stories have been compared with great writers like Sadat Hassan Manto and Anton Chekhov.
The award will be announced on 20 November in Mumbai. The Tata Literature Live! Book of the Year Award has been constituted to recognise noteworthy work in literary space across the fiction and non-fiction genres. The list for the 2017 Best Book Fiction include arilal and Sons by Sujit Saraf (Speaking Tiger Books), Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy (Penguin Random House) Scattered Souls by Shahnaz Bashir (HarperCollins), Son of a Thundercloud by Easterine Kire (Speaking Tiger), The Small Town Sea by Anees Salim (Penguin Random House) , When I Hit You by Meena Kandasamy (Juggernaut Books)
Earlier the Tata Lit Live has honoured great writers like V S Naipaul and Amitav Ghosh.
Shahnaz has earlier won the Muse India Young Writer Award 2015 for his first book The Half Mother and Talent of the Year Award 2017 for the Scattered Souls. He teaches narrative journalism and conflict reporting at the Central University of Kashmir.
