Bandipora, 02 Feb: In connection with World Wetlands Day, which marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on February 2, 1971, several functions were held across the valley on Tuesday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Zahoor Ahmad Mir flagged off a cycle rally organised by Wullar Cycling Club under the leadership of Mir Daniyal Nabi.
The aim of the rally was to make people aware of the importance of wetland for our ecology as well as economy. Cyclists highlighted the role of wetlands in preserving the fresh water resources as the theme of this year's International wetlands day is 'Wetlands and Water". The cyclists in the rally rode about 5 kms.
On the occasion, the organisers highlighted the importance of wetlands and said wetlands are natural safeguard against the disasters.
