World Cancer Day: Army organises Cancer awareness Campaign, Medical Camp in Dawar
Bandipora, February 05: The Indian Army stationed in Dawar area near Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez Valley on Saturday launched an awareness programme regarding Cancer disease in view of the World Cancer Day being celebrated today.
An official spokesperson said Indian Army organized an awareness campaign and a medical camp on the occasion of World Cancer Day in nearby villages of Dawar. “The campaign was aimed at spreading awareness regarding causes and treatment of cancer and providing basic medical care to the local population in winter cut off remote villages where medical facilities are limited or not available”.
He said the campaign commenced with lecture by Army Medical Officer on causes of cancer, symptoms, diagnosis, general problems and precautionary measures which was followed by an interactive session where the people came forward and discussed their concerns.
The medical camp turned out to be beneficial for elderly, pregnant women and children as it witnessed participation of 45 men, 30 ladies and 20 children of Wampora, Khandiyal and Badowan villages. “The participants were also made aware about cold injuries, prevention measures and treatment in prevalent sub zero mercury levels. The event was concluded by reassuring the local population that army is always committed to betterment and assistance of Awam,” he added.
