Women Protest in Bandipora’s Dangerpora Over Acute Drinking Water Shortage
BANDIPORA, May 22: Scores of women staged a protest in Saraie Dangerpora area of Bandipora district on Wednesday, expressing strong resentment against the Jal Shakti Department Sumbal over the acute shortage of drinking water in their locality.
Carrying empty vessels, the protesting women raised slogans demanding immediate restoration of the water supply. They alleged that they have been facing an unprecedented water crisis for several weeks and are compelled to travel long distances to fetch clean drinking water.
“The taps have been dry for days, and whatever water we receive is contaminated. Our children are falling sick after consuming it,” said one of the protesting women.
Residents claimed several children in the area have developed waterborne ailments due to the consumption of unsafe water, prompting serious health concerns in the locality.
The aggrieved residents appealed to the district administration and the Jal Shakti Department to take immediate steps to address the issue and ensure the supply of clean and safe drinking water to the area.
