Woman dies mysteriously in Bandipora, family alleges murder by in-laws

Bandipora March, 15: A 32-year-old woman on  Monday died in Bandipora after she allegedly consumed some poisonous substance. However her family members alleged she was murdered by in-laws.

 

          Soon after a 32-year-old married woman committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at her home in Rampora village of Bandipora, the victim’s kin staged a protest demanding stern punishment to the ‘culprits.’

The victim’s family members and relatives staged a protest in the premises of the district hospital demanding thorough probe in the matter and alleged that it was the case of domestic violence as the deceased was being harassed earlier by the in-laws over dowry and other frivolous issues.

The protesters said the relationship of the deceased was strained from past many years and they were living separately for nearly three years till last month when she returned home only 16 days ago. “All these days, she was not allowed to contact her parents and yesterday they called her father and asked him that his daughter has consumed poison,” said a protesting relative.

Her father Bashir Ahmad, khan a resident of Panzigam  alleged that his son-in-law and his daughters  in-Laws were harassing his daughter for dowry, following which she was forced to take the extreme step. He said that his daughter was often harassed and tortured. “The constant stress forced her to take her own life. Bashir urges police to arrest all those involved in the alleged murder of his daughter”.

"I had only one daughter who is no longer in this world. How long will the daughters be prosecuted and when will we get justice?" he said, adding his daughter was a mother of two young children.

Meanwhile a senior police officer said that the victim's husband and his father have been arrested while the further investigation into the case is going on. The officer said that the woman’s body was handed over to her family after the medico-legal formalities
