Wildlife Teams Capture Two Black Bears in Tral

TRAL, December 03: Wildlife teams successfully handled two separate black bear incidents on Wednesday in the Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district after swift action by Control Room Tral and Control Room Khangund. One bear was located in Mandoora Tral and the other in Aligund Tral.
In the first case, the bear found in Mandoora appeared weak and required immediate care. The team secured the animal without difficulty and shifted it to Dachigam for treatment. The second bear, detected in Aligund, was in good health. It was safely captured and released back into suitable habitat after assessment, Officials told Kashmir Convener.
Both incidents were flagged through social media posts, which allowed the teams to mobilize quickly. The response was carried out under the directions of the Wildlife Warden Shopian, Sohail Ahmad Wagay, who ensured that the operations were handled in a safe and coordinated manner. No harm came to the animals or the public.
A report by media persons suggested there was a delay in responding to the Aligund incident. This does not reflect the reality of the situation. Wildlife teams were already responding to several calls from Tral today, and the response time was appropriate for the number of simultaneous incidents that needed attention.
The department continues to rely on timely public reporting and urges residents to stay alert. People are advised to follow the SOPs shared regularly by the Wildlife Protection Department. These guidelines are meant to reduce risk, help communities respond sensibly during wildlife sightings, and support safe outcomes for both people and animals.
The department thanks the public for their cooperation and encourages continued sharing of accurate information so teams can reach locations as quickly as possible.
