Wildlife Team Khrew Rescues Female Bear, Cub in Sidco Khunmoh

PAMPORE, October 07: The Wildlife Department on Tuesday captured a female black bear along with its cub alive in the Sidco Khunmoh area of Srinagar district.

According to officials, the bear had been wandering in the locality for the past month, creating panic among residents. Following repeated sightings reported by locals, the Wildlife Department had installed a cage in the area to ensure the animal’s safe capture.

A team from the Wildlife Range Khrew, led by Block Officer Khursheed Ahmad, launched an operation on Tuesday morning and successfully trapped the female bear and her cub.

Speaking to Kashmir Convener, Block Officer Khursheed Ahmad said that the department received information early in the morning about a black bear and its cub being trapped in a cage in Sidco Khunmoh. “Our team immediately reached the spot and successfully captured both animals alive,” he said.

He added that the bear and the cub were later released back into its natural habitat.

The locals of the  area expressed their gratitude to wildlife Range Khrew and heaved a sigh of relief once the bear along with its cub was safely captured.
