Budgam, August 09: The Wildlife Protection Department, Wetlands Division, has successfully captured two leopards from the Lakhpripora area of Budgam following sustained surveillance and dedicated efforts by its field staff.
Following repeated reports of leopard movement in and around the area, the Department had already installed two trap cages at the identified site. The area was subsequently placed under continuous surveillance, while suitable live bait was arranged and deployed to facilitate the safe capture of the conflict animals, a senior officer told Kashmir Convener.
As a result of the sustained field operation, two leopards were successfully trapped at approximately 11:00 p.m. yesterday. This is a significant achievement, particularly in view of the prolonged leopard movement reported from the area and the concerns raised by local residents.
The successful operation was made possible through the persistent efforts, round-the-clock surveillance and field-level intervention of the Wildlife Protection Department staff. The Department remains committed to mitigating human-wildlife conflict while ensuring the safety of both local communities and wildlife.
The Department has also advised residents to exercise caution, avoid approaching or provoking wildlife, and immediately report any further wildlife movement to the concerned Wildlife Protection authorities.
