Pampore, September 23: In a swift operation, wildlife officials on Tuesday rescued a black bear that had fallen into a trench in the Shar Shali area of Wildlife Range Khrew in Pampore.
The incident came to light when local residents noticed the animal trapped in a water reservoir on private land at Khudalove, Shar Shali, and immediately raised an alarm. A rescue team from the Khrew control room rushed to the spot and launched an operation to save the animal.
Wildlife officials told Kashmir Convener that tranquilisers and nets were used to safely extract the bear from the reservoir without causing it any harm. The animal was later released back into its natural habitat.
The department appreciated the timely cooperation of residents, whose quick reporting made the rescue possible, and reiterated its commitment to protecting wildlife and promoting coexistence between humans and animals.
The rescue comes just days after a black bear mauled three people, including two women, in Zantrag village of Khrew. The victims, who were working in their fields when the animal attacked them, sustained critical injuries and were shifted to SMHS Hospital for treatment.
