Visually impaired Irfan Lone from Bandipora cracks UPSC

Srinagar, Mar 6:  A visually impaired candidate from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district has cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2025, the results of which were announced on Friday.

Irfan Ahmad Lone, a resident of Manzpora in the Naidkhai area of Bandipora, has secured a place in the final list of successful candidates, according to officials.

Officials said that Lone, who has been visually impaired since birth, achieved the milestone after several years of dedicated preparation. His success has drawn appreciation from local residents, who described it as a significant source of inspiration for other aspirants in the region.

Locals said Lone persistently pursued his academic goals despite the challenges posed by his visual impairment. He continued his preparation for the civil services examination while navigating the difficulties associated with his disability.

The UPSC declared the results for the Civil Services Examination 2025 on Friday. The selection process included a written main examination held in August last year and personality tests (interviews) conducted between December 2025 and February 2026.

Family members and local well-wishers have congratulated Lone on his accomplishment. They noted that his success has brought laurels to the district and highlights the potential for candidates with disabilities to compete at the national level.
