Srinagar, Dec 19: Health authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have ordered a time-bound inquiry after a video circulated widely on social media showing a patient being pushed on a hospital trolley along an open road outside Government Medical College (GMC), Handwara, triggering concern over patient safety and hospital management.

Officials said that immediately after the video surfaced, the GMC Handwara administration constituted an inquiry committee to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident. The committee has been directed to submit its findings by 11:00 am on December 20, 2025, indicating swift administrative action.

According to an official order, the inquiry committee comprises Prof (Dr) Abdul Qayoom Lone, Head of the Department of Anaesthesia; Prof (Dr) Javaid Ahmad Bhat, Head of the Department of Orthopaedics; and Prof (Dr) Rafiq Ahmad Tagoo, Head of the Department of Dentistry.

Sources said the committee has been tasked with examining multiple aspects of the incident, including the availability and functionality of diagnostic and transport services, adherence to standard operating procedures for patient movement, and coordination among different hospital departments.

The inquiry is also expected to assess whether there were infrastructural gaps or administrative lapses that forced hospital staff to move the patient outside the premises in such a manner.

Officials maintained that the findings of the committee would help identify shortcomings, if any, and pave the way for corrective measures to ensure such incidents do not recur. The administration has stated that appropriate action will be taken based on the inquiry report, should any negligence or violation of protocol be established.
