Two-Day National Seminar on Emerging Electronics and Education Begins at GDC Anantnag
Anantnag, Nov 25: A two-day national seminar titled “Empowering Education Through Emerging Electronics: Pedagogical Innovations and Policy Perspectives in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Smart Technologies” began at Government Degree College (GDC) Anantnag on Tuesday.
An official spokesperson of the institution said the event is sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, and is being organised by the Department of Electronics in collaboration with the Department of Education.
The inaugural programme opened with the National Anthem followed by the College Anthem. Guests were welcomed and felicitated with bouquets and mementoes.
In his introductory remarks, Dr. Zahid Ahmad Bhat, Head of the Department of Electronics and organiser of the seminar, said the academic community must engage with future-oriented themes as smart technologies reshape teaching, learning and evaluation. He noted that the seminar aims to explore how emerging tools and innovations can be applied for larger social progress.
An abstract book and conference kit were released during the opening session.
Welcoming the participants, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Mushtaq Ahmad Malik said the college has always taken the lead in hosting events that contribute to shaping the future across sectors. He pointed to the declining interest in electronics among students in Jammu and Kashmir but reaffirmed the college’s resolve to revive the subject’s past strength.
He also stressed the need for introspection on why the region continues to lag behind technologically advanced states despite producing talented students who excel nationally and internationally. He cited the achievements of the college alumni as evidence of this potential.
Director Colleges, Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, delivered a special address in which he underlined the importance of academic engagements that promote positive change and improve educational outcomes. He emphasised the need for sustained capacity building among faculty and students in electronics and emerging technologies.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Mahesh P. Abegaonkar, Associate Professor at the Centre for Applied Research in Electronics (CARE), IIT Delhi. He encouraged participants to become creators rather than consumers of technology. Presenting his work on CubeSat technologies, he explained their potential applications in agriculture, education and other key areas. He said developing indigenous CubeSats is essential for fostering innovation and strengthening the country’s scientific capabilities.
Dr. Arshad Hussain Ganie conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session, while Dr. Maqbool Ahanger presented the vote of thanks. The seminar will conclude on Wedensday with a valedictory session.
