Thousands Bid Farewell to Veteran Revenue Officer Ghulam Nabi Reshi in Bandipora

Bandipora, Dec 13: Ghulam Nabi Reshi, a widely respected former Revenue Officer, passed away on Friday evening following a brief illness. He was 61.

 

Reshi, who originally hailed from Buthoo village and was a resident of Bilal Colony in Ahmashareef, Bandipora, concluded a distinguished and unblemished career of over three decades in the Revenue Department earlier this year, retiring in January 2024.

 

His funeral prayers, held at the Eidgah Ahmashareef on Saturday morning, witnessed an overwhelming turnout of more than 2,000 people.

 

Citizens from all walks of life, colleagues, and public representatives gathered in a powerful tribute, led by Imam-e-High Khursheed Sahib, underscoring the profound esteem in which he was held.

 

Joining the department as a Patwari in 1991, Reshi’s career was defined by dedication, integrity, and exceptional expertise. His professional acumen led to his promotion as a Girdwar in 2017.

 

He played an instrumental role in the groundwork for several key infrastructure projects in the region. His meticulous work in the preparation and verification of critical land and revenue documents for the Kishanganga Power Project and the Authwatoo Project earned him widespread recognition. Colleagues often described him as the “backbone of the Revenue Department,” lauding his unparalleled command over complex files and his adept problem-solving skills.

 

Beyond his official duties, Reshi Sahib was celebrated for his humane and compassionate approach. Known for his humility, gentleness, and unwavering honesty, he was a people-friendly officer who was always accessible. He was particularly noted for his selfless guidance and assistance to the poor and needy, offering help without any discrimination.

 

His demise has sent a wave of grief across the district. Various socio-political organisations and public representatives have expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the bereaved family. The President of the Patwar Association mourned his passing as a “personal loss to the entire fraternity,” stating that the department has lost a “sincere, dedicated, and upright officer.”

 

Ghulam Nabi Reshi is survived by his family and a vast circle of relatives and admirers who will remember him for his exemplary character, simplicity, and lifetime of principled service.
