Srinagar, April 10 : Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, North Kashmir Range (NKR), Maqsood-ul-Zaman, on Thursday issued a stern warning to those involved in drug trafficking and its use in financing terrorism, stating that the police will take strict action against such elements without hesitation.

Speaking to the media during a Thana Diwas programme, DIG Zaman said, “We have made significant progress in the fight against drugs. Several recoveries have been made, accused arrested under PIT-NDPS Act, and properties linked to drug trade are being identified and targeted.”

In response to questions regarding the recent attachment of properties linked to terror operatives, the DIG clarified, “It is part of a legal process. When drug money is used to fuel terror activities, it becomes imperative to act — and we will.”

He further highlighted the dual role of Thana Diwas — not just as a law enforcement tool, but as a public outreach initiative. “We’re here to listen to people’s concerns and offer on-the-spot solutions. For civil issues, we are coordinating with other government departments to reduce the hardships faced by the public,” he said.

DIG Zaman reaffirmed the police’s resolve to act tough against the drug-terror nexus. “Anyone involved in drugs or using its proceeds for anti-national activities will be dealt with under strict legal provisions,” he warned.

The remarks come amid intensified anti-drug operations across the valley, where law enforcement agencies have been cracking down on the narcotics-terrorism network. The North Kashmir Police’s sustained efforts under Thana Diwas have also received appreciation for encouraging community policing and improved grievance redressal.
