Srinagar, Dec 26,: Residents of Tengpora Batamaloo Srinagar from all walks of life, have slammed the Power Development Department (PDD) for its action of hike electricity tariff, terming it a “unilateral decision” when the government has failed to provide regular supply to consumers.

According to news agencies the locals held a protest and blocked Tengpora Bypass main road while holding electricity bills in their hands. They chanted slogans against PDD, and allege that the Department has totally failed in its services and now in one or other way make people suffer.

The locals said that first it was Corona lockdown which compelled us to live hand to mouth and now hikes in  power tariff are increasing our sufferings. We are unable to pay double electricity bills.

“The government has miserably failed to provide uninterrupted supply to the Tengpora area. We ourselves repair our transformers and lines during the whole year. The inspector along with JE (Junior Engineer) is all corrupted. We wish them to be transferred as soon as possible."Said Tengapora Mohalla President Abdul Rashid Dar.

He said "People see this hike tariff as punishment, as consumers are already paying power bills and in return are not getting adequate services."

"How PDD can make unilateral decisions over hike tariff, without consulting consumers. First they should provide electricity as per schedule. They failed in their services, shame to their performance", he added. (KDC)
