New Delhi, March 12: The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) successfully conducted a test-launch of the indigenous ASTRA Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM) from the LCA AF MK1 prototype fighter aircraft off the coast of Chandipur, Odisha, on March 12, 2025.

The test-firing resulted in a direct hit on a flying target, validating the missile’s guidance, navigation, and engagement capabilities. The ASTRA missile, designed and developed by DRDO, has a strike range of over 100 km and is already inducted into the Indian Air Force (IAF).

This successful trial is a major milestone in the induction of the LCA AF MK1A variant, enhancing its combat capabilities. Further tests are planned for performance evaluation.

The trial was conducted by an integrated team of ADA, DRDO, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), CEMILAC, DG-AQA, IAF, and the test range team.

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh congratulated the teams involved, while DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat commended the scientists, engineers, and technicians for their dedication to advancing India’s defense capabilities.
