Teachers Oppose Salary Stop Order Over Biometric Attendance in Bandipora
Bandipora, Aug 29: Teachers in Bandipora district have expressed concern over the recent directive of the District Administration instructing Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) to release salaries only on the basis of biometric attendance.
In a statement issued to media, Khalid Rafeeq Bhat, Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum (JKReTTF) and Vice President of EJAC, said that teachers are not against biometric attendance but the move is impractical at present. He explained that teachers in the district are already marking their presence regularly through the Smart School Attendance App as well as through the manual mode at the time of arrival.
“The ground reality is that primary and middle schools do not have the financial resources to purchase biometric attendance devices. It is the responsibility of the administration to provide funds for the installation of these gadgets. Stopping the salaries of teachers on this account is unjustified and will create unnecessary hardships,” Mr. Bhat said.
He urged the administration to reconsider the order and extend financial assistance to schools before enforcing such directives. “Teachers are committed to their duties, but holding back their salaries over an issue beyond their control cannot be accepted,” he added.
