Baramulla, Dec 13: Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Naseer Ahmad Wani, stated on Saturday that teachers are not intended for lifelong deployment in administrative offices.
Speaking with Kashmir Convener on the sidelines of a function in Baramulla, Wani clarified the primary role of educators. “The fundamental role of a teacher is not limited to clerical duties it is to teach students and to help shape our educational policies effectively,” he said. “While we do summon teachers to offices when their expertise is required be it in the directorate, CEO offices, cultural wings, or information technology unitsthis is not a permanent arrangement. Their skills are utilised where they are needed most, which is primarily in the classroom. Office assignments are occasional, and we deploy teachers for such tasks only on a temporary, need-based basis.”
Addressing the staff shortage in schools, the Director acknowledged a persistent deficit in recent years due to a hiatus in recruitment. “The department is consistently working to bridge this gap through rationalisation of existing resources and by engaging Cluster Resource Coordinators (CRCs). This ongoing process will continue,” he affirmed.
On the issue of infrastructure in rural schools, Wani reported significant progress while admitting that gaps remain. “Substantial improvements have been made in rural school infrastructure, though deficiencies persist in some areas. These are being systematically identified and will be gradually addressed. We are committed to resolving these shortcomings within the next few years,” he stated.
Responding to questions about schools operating from rented accommodations, often referred to as “hanging schools,” the Director confirmed the matter is under active consideration. “The department is thoroughly examining this issue, and a decision deemed appropriate by the government will be taken soon,” Wani said.
He further emphasized the department’s academic priorities, declaring, “The year 2026 will be dedicated to the core essence of academics.”
