Srinagar Terror Attack: Candle Light March, Protests held in Bandipora against civilian killings

Bandipora, Feb, 08: Peaceful protests and candle light marches were held across the Bandipora district on Thursday evening against the killing of innocent civilians in Srinagar on Wednesday evening.

The members of civil society including students, former PRIs and councillors, transporters, and traders, assembled at different locations in Bandipora, Hajin and Sumbal areas of the district and undertook candlelight marches and peaceful protests denouncing the recent civilian killings.

Pertinently, Terrorists fired upon two civilians, namely Amrit Pal Singh and Rohit Mashi, both residents of Punjab, thereby killing Amrit Pal Singh on the spot and grievously injuring Rohit Mashi who later on succumbed to his injuries today. Both of them were working in Srinagar for their livelihood.

The demonstrations aimed to draw attention to the ongoing violence against innocent civilians in Kashmir and demanded justice for the victims.

The protesters termed the killings as a collective loss to society. They told the reporters that killing any innocent civilian is a highly condemnable act, and no religion on earth teaches like this.

“We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families in this hour of grief, and it's our collective loss. Innocent killings have no space in our society,” they said, adding “We as a whole civil society unequivocally oppose and denounce such killings of innocent civilians”.

The protesters denounced the terror attack and expressed solidarity with the families of the civilians killed. Terming the killing an unfortunate and dark chapter in Kashmir, protests said that such incidents create sadness and distress among people of Kashmir.

The protesters said that people want to live in peace and harmony. They said that such unfortunate incidents should not take place as every human life is precious. Meanwhile, similar protests were also witnessed in other parts of Kashmir.
