Srinagar, July 24: Heavy rainfall continued to lash several parts of Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours, with Udhampur recording the highest precipitation in the Union Territory, while the Jhelum River in Kashmir Valley continued to recede despite fresh rainfall in southern districts since midnight.
According to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Udhampur received the highest rainfall at 96.5 mm, followed by Batote (84.2 mm), Ramban (69.5 mm), Bhaderwah (65.7 mm), Ramban-Ukhral (60.5 mm), Katra (45.1 mm), Kathua (44.8 mm), Qazigund (40.2 mm) and Kukernag (39.3 mm) during the last 24 hours.
Other stations also recorded significant rainfall, including Banihal (38.3 mm), Doda (35.0 mm), Reasi (27.5 mm), Kishtwar (27.0 mm), Jammu (25.2 mm), Baramulla (1.5 mm), Bandipora (1.0 mm), Budgam (1.0 mm), Ganderbal (0.5 mm), Kupwara (0.5 mm), Pulwama (0.5 mm), Shopian (0.5 mm), Srinagar (0.6 mm) and Anantnag (2.0 mm).
Officials said that although southern parts of Kashmir have been witnessing fresh rainfall since midnight, the water level in the Jhelum River has continued to recede and remains below the alert level, easing fears of any flood threat in the Valley.
The weather department has advised people, particularly those living in vulnerable areas, to remain cautious as intermittent rain may continue and isolated incidents of flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones cannot be ruled out in hilly districts.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to follow official weather and traffic advisories while avoiding unnecessary travel to landslide-prone areas. [KNT]
