Snowfall: Bandipor-Gurez road closed for vehicular traffic

Bandipora , Jan 02: The Gurez-Bandipora road has been closed on Wednesday morning owing to snowfall in the region.

About seven inches of snow has accumulated in Gurez till 9am.

Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said men and machinery is on job for snow clearance. "One snow cutter is working at Kanzalwan Bagtore road, Two at Dawar while one machine has been deployed in Tulail area." 

He said all internal routes of Gurez zone have been cleared. Power water supply and other essential commodities are still sufficient. 

Meanwhile the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora reviewed the preparedness of any eventuality during snowfall. He directed the officials to keep track of the public greviances and resolve them at earliest and ensure regular supply of essential commodities.

He said the 33KV lines pertain to STD Gandarbal/Bandipora are running smoothely

Dr Choudhary said the administration is ready to tackle with any kind of situation and that the men and machinery has been put on standby mode.

He said the snow clearance machines have been  put on alert  at various spots in the district so that snow is cleared from the roads at earliest.

He said a control room has also been established in Mini-secretariat and representatives from all the department have been deployed in the control room to maintain  close  coordination in case of exigencies. He said focus is being laid on snow clearance on various inter-district roads and power restoration.
