Gurez, Feb 16: Army on Tuesday organised a snow sports training camp at Neeru in Tulail area of Gurez valley with an aim to promote winter sports activities in the area.
An official said more than 20 kids including 12 boys and 8 girls participated in the training sessions organised by Niru Garrison. He said Tulail valley blanketed by snow during winters have a lot of potential for winter sports and can be exploited for winter tourism.
The snow and great slopes on various ridge lines and the snow covered valley floors of KishanGanga River provide immense potential for winter sports. “But the real asset are the motivated youths of the region who have got great stamina, good physique, a lot of passion and a natural connection with the snow”.
In a statement issued today, Spokesperson said it is very hard for the youths of the Gurez valley to undergo training for hours in open at extreme low temperature and at an altitude of 9000 ft. “But any efforts from the civil administration or tourism department for establishment of infrastructure for winter sports including lifts and shelters will further boost the efforts of the youths of the region”.
