Shopian Police Apprehends Three Gamblers; Stake Money Seized

Shopian, April 09: Continuing its drive against social evils and illegal activities, Shopian Police apprehended three individuals involved in gambling during routine patrolling near Sugan Orchards under the jurisdiction of Police Post Turkwangam.

The arrested persons have been identified as Bashir Ahmad Ganie, son of Gh Mohammad Ganie, resident of Pulwama; Nisar Ahmad Seh, son of Gh Mohammad Seh, resident of Achan Pulwama; and Hilal Ahmad Ahanger, son of Gh Qadir Ahanger, resident of Malikpora Pulwama.

During the operation, police recovered stake money amounting to ₹29,000 along with a deck of playing cards from the spot. However, another individual identified as Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Tresal Pulwama, managed to flee from the scene.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 49/2026 under Section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered at Police Station Zainapora, and further investigation has been initiated.

Shopian Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining public order and urged citizens to cooperate by reporting any illegal activities in their areas.
