The present Century is the century of Science. We depend even for a minute thing on applied science. Nowadays science and applied science is developing gradually & helping us to lead our life much better and easier. So, we can’t avoid science at all. It is a very important day to recall all the memory which science has given to us. And this day is perfect occasion to recognize the service of science for the betterment of humanity. This day which is also celebrated as National Science Day Like other parts of the country we are also celebrating this Day which is being celebrated all over our country with great enthusiasm to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by the Indian physicist, Dr. Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman in 1928. During this day students of various schools and colleges demonstrate motley of science projects as well as national and state science institutions exhibit their latest researches.
Events on this day remind us the importance of science inspiring people of all ages to work in the field of SCIENCE. This day provides us opportunity to thank scientists for their selfless service to the nation. Indeed this day attracts many young minds and motivates them to take up science as their career. Students are provided with the knowledge about science and it inspires them to show much interest in science.
Many science-related programmes are organized to attract and inspire the thirsty students. Apart from that, in many schools and colleges, science exhibition is arranged and many other competitions also organized on this occasion, where students represent their innovative ideas. The celebration purpose is to support and inspire new innovations of innovative scientists or students. Scientists share all their experiences, inspire them and interact with students.
We should utilize and take care of the gift of science for the sake of all. Good is always good so we no need to discuss more good, as we know the benefits of science.
Apart from the recognition of Sir C.V.Raman's meritorious service there are so many objectives behind the celebration of the National Science Day. In spite of various developments in the field of science and technology; there is still a portion of the society deprived of all the developmental issues. Thus the National Science Day spreads the message of importance of science and its applications in various fields. It gives an opportunity to bring issues of science on to center stage.
The role of science on human welfare in various concerns like disease eradication, energy production, space exploration, environmental issues, information technology etc. are emphasized on this day. The impact or the influence of biotechnology in various fields like agriculture, health, environment, industry and pharmaceuticals is highly significant. Science has done wonders in Communication at a much lower cost. The day motivates to inculcate scientific temper among the school children. The scientific community on the National Science Day talks about the various steps taken by the department so that even the future generations participate in it. With such efforts even the public can take part and be updated with the emerging issues of immediate concern.
While the whole country celebrates Science Day and remembers the contribution of Raman, it is also an opportunity to take stock of the status of science in our own Jammu and Kashmir. Such introspection is necessary as science and technology have become the most important drivers of the economy of a nation. The Department of Science and Technology is trying its best to come up to the expectation of scientific fraternity. The scientific institutions and other Non Governmental organizations of Jammu and Kashmir are doing off course their bit to popularize the science. Now days the positive trends are emerging from the young minds of Jammu and Kashmir. Almost every day we are seeing the achievements of young Kashmir throughout the world. Just a few days ago I came across the achievement of Dr. Javaid Mir from Quilmuqam who is a postdoctoral researcher selected as the inaugural fellow of Northeastern University which has teamed up with Moderna, the biotechnology company based in Cambridge, to get hands-on experience in drug discovery, development, delivery, and evaluation and will use Big Data to help design a more efficient drug-development model so that scientists can be more confident that treatments, such as the COVID-19. The efforts of the institutions working for the popularization of science in Jammu and Kashmir are now bearing fruits. The Govt. institutions like Jammu and Kashmir Council for Science technology and Innovation is working under the safe hands of Dr. Nasir Shah Additional Director who is himself a scientist of repute and published many books mathematics for the students of Jammu and Kashmir, like wise Biodiversity Council is working under the supervision of Mohit Geera who had proved credentials as the expert in biodiversity. Similarly we can quote many such examples.
Since National Science Day is celebrated to appreciate the efforts of individuals and organizations that work for the popularization of Science at gross root levels it is our responsibility to contribute for the betterment of our society by doing our bit. Let me wish science enthusiast very best to enhance their scientific zeal.
