School Education Department Reaffirms Free Textbook Policy for Classes 1–8

SRINAGAR, Oct 30: The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has reaffirmed its commitment to providing free textbooks to all students from Class 1 to 8 in government schools.

This assurance was provided in a written reply to MLA Ananthnag West Abdul Majeed Larmi, during the ongoing Autumn Session of the J&K Assembly.

According to the response a document of which lies with Kashmir Convener,m reads, textbooks for Classes 1 and 2 are funded under the District Plan, while those for Classes 3 to 8 are covered under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

Officials confirmed that the printing of textbooks for the current academic session in the winter zone is already underway. Several titles have already reached the stores of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBoSE). The department has guaranteed that distribution to schools will commence before the start of the academic session.

In its reply, the department also stated that several measures have been implemented to prevent delays and streamline the process. A zone-wise distribution system will ensure an organized delivery process.

A comprehensive schedule is being created to monitor the supply chain, with clear deadlines established for each zone.

Further, ties with District and Zonal Education Officers are being strengthened to facilitate timely delivery and eliminate bottlenecks, the department further stated in its response.
