School Children perform Street Play to raise awareness about Solid Waste Management
Srinagar, May 29: Human Welfare Voluntary Organization (HWVO) in collaboration with Falcon Public School Rajouri Kadal performed a street play to create awareness about solid waste managment.
Around 13 students participated in the play which was conducted in the holy Shrine of Khankhi Moullah to do the mass awareness about waste management in which concepts of waste, its differences, the use of two bins for segregation, Road side littering and the attitude people carry where throwing waste on roads and new normal attitude of people doing road side littering. The skit also showed the importance of changing perception and behavior about litter.
Explaining the reason behind the Skit Miss Nabeela , project coordinator, HWVO, said, “At HWVO we believe actions by a group of people or organizations won’t be enough. It needs to spread exponentially. This play and the involvement of students are to impact the environment in a positive way. That is what we want to spread from communities to communities till the whole Srinagar is in strong will to make a change to create a greener, happier future.”
An official said HWVO will take several more initiatives in different schools for the waste management and behavioral changes along with the anti –litter campaign.
HWVO is the IEC (Information, Education and Communication) partner of SMC (Srinagar Municipal Corporation) under project Solid Waste Management for Zone 2 comprising of wards 06 to 09 of shehri-khass.
The solid waste management Campaign is a joint initiative between the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Human welfare Voluntary organization that aims to educate people about the issues surrounding litter, to encourage them to make positive waste disposal choices, and to inspire them to engage their communities in anti-litter activities.
