Boniyar (Baramulla), Nov 30: SBI Foundation on Sunday inaugurated two ‘SBI Sanjeevani – Clinic on Wheels’ at Boniyar in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district to provide doorstep primary healthcare services to underserved communities across the border and remote areas of Baramulla and Kupwara districts.
In a statement issued to Kashmir Convener on Sunday, an official spokesperson of SBI Foundation said the mobile clinics were launched by Shri Jagannath Sahu, President and Chief Operating Officer, SBI Foundation, in the presence of Mr. Nawab Mehran Khan, Chief Executive Officer of implementing partner ELFA International, along with representatives from the police, healthcare sector, civil society and members of the local community.
Addressing the gathering, Sahu said the initiative under SBI Foundation’s health vertical “Jivanam” aims to take medical care beyond brick-and-mortar facilities to directly reach vulnerable populations through a sustainable and scalable outreach model.
He described the ‘SBI Sanjeevani’ programme as a comprehensive approach encompassing preventive, curative and awareness-based healthcare, and appreciated the work of ELFA International, calling it among the country’s leading non-governmental organisations.
Mr. Khan said the mobile clinics would act as a vital link for communities with limited access to hospitals and specialist healthcare, particularly in far-flung border and rural pockets. He underscored ELFA International’s commitment to inclusive, community-driven health interventions to bridge existing gaps in medical care delivery.
During the event, a Health Profiling Report of Baramulla and Kupwara districts was released, highlighting key health indicators, disease patterns and priority needs to guide targeted healthcare interventions and resource planning in the region.
According to spokesperson, Beneficiaries also shared experiences, expressing hope that the mobile clinics would ease travel challenges, reduce delays in treatment and lower out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Under a ceremonial handover, a replica key of the clinic vehicle was presented to the ELFA International CEO by Shri Sahu, followed by the formal flag-off of the two mobile units.
Each clinic is equipped with essential diagnostic tools, medicines and trained medical staff to provide general consultations, basic diagnostics, maternal and child healthcare, hygiene and nutrition awareness, and referral services for advanced treatment. The initiative is expected to strengthen healthcare outreach and promote preventive care among vulnerable populations in north Kashmir.
Spokesperson said SBI Foundation and ELFA International reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring equitable access to healthcare and inclusive development across remote and underserved communities of Jammu and Kashmir.
