SANKALP HEW Mission Shakti Organizes Health Exposure Visit for Adolescent Girls in Bandipora

Bandipora, September 24: The SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW) Mission Shakti, under the Department of Social Welfare Bandipora, in collaboration with the Health and Education Departments, organized an exposure visit for 100 adolescent girls from various schools across the district to the District Hospital Bandipora.

An official spokesperson said the students visited multiple specialized units, including the Mental Health Unit, District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC), Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic (AFHC), Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF), and Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Centre, to gain firsthand knowledge about the services available to support adolescent health and well-being.

During the visit, students interacted with a team of hospital experts who highlighted key aspects of mental and physical health. Psychologists from the Mental Health Unit and DEIC briefed the students on stress management, mental health awareness, and early intervention strategies to prevent substance abuse.

Counselors from the AFHC guided the students on menstrual hygiene and adolescent health, while experts from the ATF addressed substance abuse and related myths. Additionally, counselors from the IYCF unit explained the importance of nutrition, reproductive health, and life skills education.

Students from schools including HSS Nadihal, BHSS NM Bandipora, Faizie Aam Bandipora, Eaglets Public School, Space Age Bandipora, GHS Nadihal, and GHS Plan actively participated, raising questions on mental health, nutrition, reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, and drug addiction, which were addressed comprehensively by the experts.

The District Mission Coordinator of SANKALP HEW Mission Shakti emphasized the importance of such exposure visits in empowering adolescent girls with the right knowledge and confidence.

She reiterated the department’s commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and holistic empowerment of women and girls through coordinated services across departments.

The program concluded with appreciation for the Education Department for facilitating student participation and escort teachers, and for the Health Department for providing expert counseling, making the visit both meaningful and impactful.
