Bandipora, Sept 12: The SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW) Mission Shakti, Department of Social Welfare Bandipora, has successfully concluded a 10-day special awareness campaign aimed at empowering women and girls through multi-sectoral collaboration and inclusive outreach. The campaign, held from September 2 to 12, witnessed widespread participation from women, students, grassroots workers, and staff members across the district.

The programme was conducted in partnership with several departments and institutions including the Health Department, Education Department, Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Integrated Child Protection Services (ICPS), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora, Polytechnic College Bandipora, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora, PHC Ketson and NGOs.

The campaign featured diverse activities across the district. In Ketson, an awareness drive on the PCPNDT Act highlighted the importance of preventing sex-selective practices, while in Aloosa a capacity-building session for Self-Help Group (SHG) members was organised to spread awareness about Mission Shakti components, women helpline services, and social welfare schemes. At RSETI Bandipora, trainees attended a gender sensitisation workshop focused on equity, inclusion, and entrepreneurship.

An awareness session on the PoSH Act and SHE-Box grievance redressal system was held at ICPS Hall, Bandipora, for female staff of the Social Welfare Department. In Pazalpora and adjoining schools, children participated in a Bal Sabha on the POSCO Act and child marriage laws, alongside health and nutrition awareness programmes. Polytechnic College Bandipora hosted a ‘Selfie with Daughters’ event and a workshop on government welfare schemes, skill development, and entrepreneurship.

A session at PHC Chuttimulla in collaboration with DLSA Bandipora educated women and grassroots workers on women-centric legislations such as the Domestic Violence Act, PoSH Act, Dowry Prohibition Act and ITPA. Girls from Hajin block were also taken on an exposure visit to KVK Bandipora and Agriculture College Wadura Sopore to motivate them towards agri-entrepreneurship. Additionally, in Hajin, a session on menstrual hygiene management was held with the support of NGO JKASW, where sanitary napkins were also distributed.

Officials said the campaign succeeded in reaching diverse audiences—from schoolchildren and adolescent girls to grassroots workers and college students—spreading awareness on issues of health, education, legal literacy, and women’s rights.

District Mission Coordinator, SANKALP HEW Mission Shakti Bandipora, said the programme reflected the collective commitment of the team to women’s empowerment. “By collaborating across departments and reaching every section—from schoolgirls to grassroots workers—SANKALP HEW Mission Shakti is building an inclusive and supportive ecosystem for women in Bandipora,” the official said.
