SANKALP-HEW Mission Shakti Celebrates International Girl Child Day in Bandipora

Sumbal, October 11: In celebration of International Girl Child Day 2025, the SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW) Mission Shakti, Department of Social Welfare Bandipora, under the leadership of Bashir Ahmad Malik and in collaboration with the Education Department, organised a series of activities in Sumbal to promote empowerment, leadership, and safety among girls.

An official spokesperson said the programme was held in line with this year’s global theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.”

Awareness sessions were conducted by Gender Specialist Sumaiya Muzaffer and Financial Literacy Specialist Najmu Saqib, sensitising students about various government welfare schemes, legal rights, health, and financial literacy for girls. School faculty also delivered motivational talks and appreciated the Social Welfare Department Bandipora for its initiatives in advancing women and child welfare.

To encourage physical fitness, confidence, and resilience, sports and self-defence activities were organised for the students. Free sports uniforms were distributed, followed by a badminton tournament among girl students of the Sumbal area, aimed at fostering teamwork and sportsmanship. Experts from Star Sports Academy conducted self-defence and kickboxing training sessions, equipping the girls with essential safety skills and confidence-building techniques. Tokens of appreciation were presented to the Star Sports Academy trainers for their contributions.

The winning and runner-up teams of the badminton event, along with PET Mr. Muneer Hussain, were felicitated for promoting girls’ participation in sports.

The Principals of Higher Secondary School Sumbal and Girls Middle School Sumbal were also appreciated for their cooperation and support in making the programme successful.
