Jammu, April 4: A heated exchange was witnessed in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Saturday as National Conference leader and minister Sakina Itoo targeted Peoples Democratic Party MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, holding his party responsible for the current situation in the Union Territory.

The confrontation unfolded during Assembly proceedings, bringing to the fore sharp political differences between the National Conference and the PDP over developments following the abrogation of Article 370 and the status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Sakina Itoo, addressing the House, accused the PDP of being responsible for the present circumstances, including the absence of Article 370 and the delay in the restoration of statehood.

“If there is no Article 370 today, it is because of PDP… there is no statehood because of you… we are in trouble and without power because of you,” she said during the exchange.

The remarks were directed at Waheed Para, who represents Pulwama in the Assembly and is a prominent PDP leader.

The exchange reflects ongoing political tensions between the two regional parties, both of which have taken differing positions on the sequence of events leading to the constitutional changes of August 2019.

The Assembly proceedings witnessed raised voices during the verbal confrontation, though the session continued thereafter. [KNT]
