SAKHI celebrates National Girl Child Day in Bandipora

Bandipora, Jan 24: SAKHI Bandipora celebrated National Girl Child Day 2024 by organising a daylong program at Town Hall with support from District Administration and other partners. 

The event focused on recognizing the importance of girls under the theme "Strong, courageous, brilliant – every girl is a masterpiece.”

Special guests including Additional Deputy Commissioner Umar ShafI Pandit and Additional District Development Commissioner Mohammad Ashraf Bhat highlighted the crucial role of girls in society. They stressed the responsibility to care for them and urged successful women to guide others.

ADC Umar Shafi emphasised the need for overall development and support for girls in education, socio-economics, and politics. The administration's efforts under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, including awareness programs and an online painting competition, were discussed.

The event covered important topics like female foeticide, girl education, and violence against women, with speakers like Ms. Jameela Akhter from OSC Bandipora. She highlighted the collective commitment to empowering girls and shared various schemes by the District Administration.

Project Coordinator Showkat Ahmad from District Drug De-Addiction Centre stressed the importance of sensitising society about the girl child. He appreciated the agencies involved and advocated for empowering girls through education and health, mentioning services at DDAC to tackle drug issues.

Ms. Ishrat Ayoub, Centre Administrator of SAKHI OSC Bandipora, summed up the day's message: "Let's commit to building a society that uplifts and empowers every girl. May every girl be empowered with knowledge and education for a bright future. Strong, courageous, brilliant – every girl is a masterpiece." The initiative aimed for a society where girls have equal opportunities and contribute meaningfully.
