Rural Entrepreneurship, Value Addition Key to Farm Growth: Swami Suryanil

Bandipora, May 21: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora-1 on Thursday hosted Swami Suryanil, Chairperson of Total Start Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Developers, during his visit aimed at promoting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable agricultural development.

During the interaction, Swami Suryanil engaged with Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), tribal farmers, rural entrepreneurs and youth, discussing opportunities in value addition, agri-based enterprises, branding and collective marketing. He stressed the need for community-driven entrepreneurial models to strengthen rural livelihoods and enhance farmers’ income.

He also visited various demonstration units at KVK Bandipora-1, including Natural Farming models, protected cultivation setups, integrated farming systems and lotus cultivation areas, and appreciated the ongoing innovation-based initiatives.

KVK Head Dr. Tariq Sultan briefed the visiting delegation on key extension and training programmes, highlighting the role of KVKs in promoting scientific agriculture and livelihood diversification. SMS Vegetable Science Dr. Tahir Saleem presented details of vegetable cultivation and protected farming technologies being demonstrated at the centre.

Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Bhat, Coordinator Upscaling Collectivization under JKCIP, interacted with FPO members and emphasized the importance of collective farming, stronger market linkages and farmer institutions for sustainable rural growth.

The programme concluded with field visits and discussions on strengthening collaboration between farmers, institutions and entrepreneurship networks to boost rural economic development in Bandipora.
