Bandipora, June 5: Role Model Girls Middle School Prang in Zone Hajin of Bandipora on Friday celebrated World Environment Day 2026 with a series of awareness programmes aimed at promoting environmental conservation and sustainable living.
The event witnessed the participation of students, teachers, ASHA workers, members of civil society, senior citizens, parents and Village Education Committee (VEC) members, reflecting a collective commitment towards protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development.
The programme was organized jointly by the School Education Department and the Rural Development Department (RDD) to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage responsible environmental practices among students and the wider community.
The event was presided over by Dr. Ishrat Ahmad Lone, State Level Consultant, NIRDPR, along with Fayaz Ahmad, Block Development Officer (BDO) Hajin, Masood Ahmad Magray, Zonal Education Officer Hajin, and Muntazir Muneer, Headmaster of GMS Prang.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted the significance of World Environment Day and stressed the urgent need to conserve natural resources, protect biodiversity, reduce pollution and adopt eco-friendly practices. They emphasized that environmental protection requires collective action and active participation from all sections of society.
Speaking on the occasion, Headmaster Muntazir Muneer underscored the role of educational institutions in nurturing environmental awareness among students. He urged students to become ambassadors of environmental conservation and spread the message of cleanliness, plantation and sustainable living within their communities.
A major highlight of the programme was the enthusiastic participation of students, who delivered speeches, recited poems and presented thought-provoking talks on environmental conservation, climate change, afforestation, waste management and ecological balance. Their presentations reflected a strong understanding of environmental challenges and a commitment to building a greener future.
The event also featured awareness sessions and interactive discussions, providing participants with an opportunity to exchange ideas and pledge practical actions for environmental protection.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective pledge to work towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future. Organizers described the event as a meaningful step towards strengthening environmental awareness and encouraging community-driven conservation efforts.
