Bandipora, Jan 20: As part of Road Safety Month-2025, an awareness programme on “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” was organised at the Bus Stand, Bandipora, by the office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Bandipora, in collaboration with the Medical Department, Municipal Committee and Education Department.

An official spokesperson said the programme witnessed a large turnout of members of the general public as well as commercial vehicle drivers, reflecting growing concern over the twin challenges of drug abuse and road safety.

During the event, participants were sensitised about the harmful effects of substance abuse and its serious consequences on physical and mental health, safe driving behaviour and the overall social fabric.

Speakers highlighted that drug abuse significantly increases the risk of road accidents by impairing judgment, reflexes and decision-making ability, posing a grave threat not only to drivers but also to passengers and pedestrians.

According to spokesperson, emphasis was laid on the need to adopt a drug-free lifestyle as a prerequisite for responsible driving and for ensuring safer roads.

The initiative aimed to create sustained awareness among drivers and the public about the importance of sobriety, discipline and adherence to traffic norms.

Officials stressed that road safety cannot be achieved through enforcement alone and requires collective responsibility, behavioural change and active public participation.

The programme concluded with a call for continued cooperation between government departments, drivers and citizens to build a safer, healthier and drug-free society, in line with the broader objectives of Road Safety Month-2025.
