Residents Lock Govt High School in Koragbal Over Staff Shortage
Bandipora, May 27: Residents of Koragbal village in Gurez on Tuesday locked the Government High School to protest an acute shortage of teaching staff, demanding immediate intervention from the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Bandipora.
Locals alleged that the school, which had 13 teachers last year, is now left with only three following mass transfers, severely impacting the education of students in the remote border village.
“We live in a far-off area where access to education is already difficult. With just three teachers for seven subjects, our children’s future is at stake,” said a protesting parent.
The residents accused the CEO of approving the transfers without ensuring replacements. They claimed repeated pleas to the Education Department went unanswered, forcing them to take the extreme step of sealing the school.
“If our demands are not met, we will be compelled to launch a ‘Gurez Chakka Jam’ agitation,” said another protester, urging higher authorities to resolve the crisis.
The school will remain locked, residents said, until adequate teaching staff is posted to ensure uninterrupted academic activities.
