Pampore, April 3: Residents of Noorani Colony and Khankahbagh in saffron town Pampore on Friday voiced strong resentment against the administration over a persistent drainage problem near the SRTC Masjid along the old national highway, alleging that the issue has caused prolonged inconvenience and unhygienic conditions in the area.

Locals said wastewater from the locality accumulates near the mosque, leading to severe waterlogging and stagnation of sewage. The situation has made movement difficult for pedestrians and commuters, while worshippers visiting the mosque for daily prayers are facing particular hardship.

Shopkeepers operating in the vicinity reported that foul smell and stagnant water have adversely affected their businesses and routine operations. Residents said that despite repeated representations to the concerned departments, no effective steps have been taken to resolve the problem.

They warned that if immediate action is not initiated, they would be compelled to stage protest demonstrations against the administration.

Earlier, locals had planned to hold a protest at the site after Friday prayers. However, senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party Mohammad Asif Ganaie, accompanied by other party leaders, visited the area and interacted with the aggrieved residents. He assured them that he would take up the matter with the concerned authorities and make all possible efforts to ensure early redressal of their long-pending grievance.

Following the assurance, residents expressed hope that the issue would be addressed at the earliest. Ganaie reiterated his commitment to resolving the matter in coordination with the administration to provide relief to the people of the area.
