Athwatoo, Feb 25: A devastating fire incident was reported on the intervening night of Tuesday- Wednesday from Kohli Mohalla in Athwatoo, where a residential quarter located near the local fish farm was completely gutted in flames.

Eyewitnesses said the fire broke out on Tuesday night and spread rapidly, engulfing the structure within minutes.

By the time the Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot, the entire roof and one full storey of the residential quarter had already been reduced to ashes.

Preliminary investigation suggest that all household belongings, including furniture, bedding, matting and other essential items, were completely destroyed, causing losses running into several lakhs of rupees.

Initial reports indicate that the fire may have been triggered by an electric short circuit, though the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed.

Local residents stated that the absence of a proper bridge and motorable road to Kohli Mohalla hindered timely access for the fire services to reach the spot.

They said the lack of connectivity played a major role in the fire spreading uncontrollably and gutting the entire structure.

The intense blaze also caused damage to nearby fish ponds, as burning debris and remains of the structure fell into the water. This reportedly led to the death of thousands of fish, resulting in additional losses worth several lakhs of rupees.

No casualties have been reported in the incident
