RECPDCL Transfers Umred Power Transmission SPV to MSETCL

Convener News Desk

New Delhi, Feb 26: REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned arm of REC Limited under the Ministry of Power, has handed over Umred Power Transmission Limited — the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) created for an intra-state transmission project in Maharashtra — to Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL).

In a statement issued to Kashmir Convener, an official spokesperson said MSETCL emerged as the successful bidder through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by RECPDCL, which acted as the Bid Process Coordinator. The project will be executed under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model, with an implementation timeline of 24 months.

The SPV was formally transferred by Shri Vijay Kulkarni, Senior GM and Head (T&D), RECPDCL, to Ms. Vineeta Shriwani, Company Secretary, and Shri Amit Naik, Chief Engineer (TBCB), MSETCL, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations and the Maharashtra State Transmission Utility.

The transmission scheme involves setting up a new high-capacity 400/220/132 kV substation at Umred to strengthen the regional grid. It also includes the construction of a nearly 51-km-long 220 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting the upcoming Umred substation with the proposed Additional Buttibori station.

In addition, a 132 kV double-circuit line spanning about 38 km will be laid between the existing Kolari substation and the new Umred facility. The project further entails Line-In-Line-Out (LILO) connectivity of multiple 400 kV, 220 kV and 132 kV lines, along with associated civil, electrical and system integration works necessary for seamless grid operation.

The project is expected to enhance power transmission capacity, improve voltage stability and ensure reliable electricity supply within Maharashtra.

REC Limited, established in 1969, is a leading Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) focused on financing projects across the power sector value chain, including generation, transmission, distribution and renewable energy. The company has recently expanded into non-power infrastructure sectors such as airports, metro rail, ports, bridges and logistics.

Spokesperson said the RECPDCL provides consultancy, project implementation and transaction advisory services to state power utilities and has also been actively involved in executing transmission projects in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. As Bid Process Coordinator for several inter-state and intra-state projects under the TBCB framework, it plays a key role in strengthening India’s power transmission infrastructure. (PIB)
