Rangyug’s Dogri Play “Chanchlo” Raises Funds for Flood Victims
Jammu, September 20: In a unique blend of art and empathy, Rangyug – Theatre for Social Change and Self-Realisation, in collaboration with 92.7 BIG FM, staged a special charity performance of its acclaimed Dogri play “Chanchlo” at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu.
The proceeds of the show are earmarked to support victims of the recent floods in Jammu & Kashmir.
The event was graced by B.M. Sharma (IFS), Principal Secretary, Department of Culture, Harvinder Kour, Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, and Ashwani Khajuria, Director Hospitality and Protocols, who lauded Rangyug’s initiative of linking theatre with social responsibility and appreciated 92.7 BIG FM’s role through their ‘Hands for Humanity’ campaign.
Speaking at the occasion, B.M. Sharma said, “Rangyug has connected theatre with charity — something very rare in our cultural landscape. Dedicating an entire performance to support flood-affected families is an extraordinary gesture. Art here goes beyond aesthetics; it reflects empathy and responsibility. Such initiatives set an inspiring example for the cultural fraternity.”
He also praised RJ Dr. Juhie Mohan for her stellar solo performance, noting her ability to sustain audience engagement for over ninety minutes with depth, humour, and emotional intensity under the direction of Deepak Kumar.
Adapted in Dogri by Dr. Mohan from Nadira Zaheer Babbar’s Hindi play “Sakubai”, “Chanchlo” tells the story of a domestic help, bringing to the fore the struggles and inner strength of a voice often overlooked. Through sharp dialogues, humour, and emotional resonance, the play entertained while provoking reflection on society’s treatment of the marginalised.
The production was supported by a dedicated backstage team: Ashish Sharma (Assistant Director), Shivan Gupta (Music & Sound), Pankaj Sharma (Lights), Shammi Dhamir (Make-up), Neharika (Props), and performers Raj Kumar Behrupia, Soham Kashyap, Sumit, Poonam, and Aamir Akram Khan, ensuring a seamless execution.
The charity show received a standing ovation, reflecting both the artistic impact of Chanchlo and the ensemble’s dedication. Rangyug and BIG FM expressed gratitude to donors, sponsors, and contributors whose support will directly aid flood relief and rehabilitation.
The performance was also kept open to the public free of cost, ensuring inclusivity in this humanitarian effort.
